Nissan & Tohatsu Outboard Year Guide
FOUNDED IN 1922, TOHATSU CORPORATION. THEN NAMED TAKATA MOTOR RESEARCH INSTITUTE, MANUFACTURED TRAIN CARRIAGES, PORTABLE ENGINE GENERATORS AND RADIO-CONTROLLED GENERATORS. IN 1956 TOHATSU INTRODUCED THEIR FIRST OUTBOARD ENGINE. SINCE THEN, TOHATSU OUTBOARD ENGINES HAVE CAPABLY SERVED A VARIETY OF MARKETPLACES: COMMERCIAL FISHING, MARINETRANSPORT, RECREATION, AND COMPETITION.
For motors produced in 2003 and beyond, the serial number (6 numbers + 2 letters) will indicate the Production Year of the motor using the 2 letter code at the end of the serial number. Look up each letter in the table below to determine the production year:
Example Serial Number: 123456XF
- X = 0
- F = 6
- Production Year = 2006

The production year may not be the same as the "model year", as the model year starts at different times during the year.
